WHAT ARE FRENCH GREEN BEANS?

French Green Beans are also known as Haricot Verts which are their official French name,”haricot” meaning bean and “vert” green. French green beans or Haricot Verts and American green beans have some differences. French green beans or Haricot Verts are more tender, longer, and thinner than the thicker and heartier American green beans.

When grown French Green Beans (Haricot Verts) have a full green bean flavor early in their development. They are tender and thin in size. As for American green beans, their immature green beans cannot be replaced for the skinny French green beans (Haricot Verts). They need to be at their full growth to become tender and they are much thicker than their French green beans counterpart.
